Our Mission

Blue Barn Rescue & Sanctuary was founded by Peter, Mary and Sharon Gunthel in 2023 and became a nonprofit organization in 2024. The Board has decades of experience in animal rescue and created their own specialized sanctuary for animals in need. Blue Barn takes in animals that have suffered from neglect, abuse or abandonment and have special needs that make them less likely to be adopted. We collaborate with adoption agencies and accept "critical care" cases: sick, injured, chronically ill or pregnant animals. We help animals recover and find the optimal adoptive home, carefully screening each potential parent. We provide ongoing support, coaching and education to the adoptive family. If no suitable adoptive home is found, Blue Barn welcomes them to our farm, giving them permanent sanctuary. Our mission is to love and care for all the animals we encounter, help them overcome their challenges and provide them with a loving forever home.
